Reflection:
This blog and subsequent video are two great examples of a student centred learning experience using technology. The use of a blog format allowed for my team mates and I to create a definition of the term and subsequently address the idea of how technology can facilitate this type of learning through our different entries. Through a combination of
reflection ( we commented on each others entries), motivation ( not to let your team mates down and to do academically well) and the need to find the information on one's own (in which to write a blog entry) was pivotal to make this collaborative student centred learning experience work.
The reliance on oneself and team members to address this topic was very important. Each team member was responsible to support the others learning and to read their posts for any inconsistencies. In this case we only had one team member who took a back seat for scheduling reasons. However, it is interesting to note that even with that situation occurring the rest of the group bonded to together to overcome this issue and to continue on with the project.
This exercise used technology as a vehicle for the creation of a blog that conveyed information in an innovative way. It was extended to our presentation which is shown in the video . As a group we wanted to create a situation in which the students could experience a rudimentary form of student centred learning. It is interesting to note that the high school students who are interviewed in the video seem to be open to the idea of student centred learning and in most cases are doing that in an informal way. Overall, this was a great learning experience where we were required to investigate the topic of student centred learning using the principles of the theory.
