Artifact #1: Personal Learning Review
Artifact Description:
For this assignment we were asked to write a personal learning review about how communication theories that we were discussing in class were connected to our learning and participation within groups.
Reflection:
I chose this artifact because it shows my own personal reflections towards the collaborative experiences within the classroom. It was written as a final assignment, therefore it is a comprehensive review of my experiences within the class.
As I reread this assignment I found that many of the qualities that I mention have not changed. I am still for the most part an "information seeker, coordinator, procedural technician and compromiser (Benne & Sheats, 1948)". However, as the program proceeded and I became more confident in my skills I found that I also possessed leadership skills that would appear more and more frequently within groups. I attribute this to the idea that as I moved forward in the program I began to feel more comfortable in my skills and in the tasks being assigned.
In the beginning of the program all of the people in my class were new to the program. We all had skills in technology but had not experienced adobe connect or online presentations. As I took more classes the make of the individuals changed to a mixture of newer and more experienced students. This had a direct effect on my role within the group as different skills were called forth depending on the makeup of the group. I value these changes as they have aided me in developing the confidence to leave the teaching profession and to move forward into another career confident that my skills are valuable and that I am easily adaptable to working with others.

This is an example of a discussion on the class Ning between me a fellow student.
Reflection:
I chose this artifact because it shows online discussions between the students in the course. It is a practice of both collaboration and reflection. We were required to present information and then provided a discussion question for the class to comment on. The discussion was done asynchronously. Through this activity we were able to solidify informational understanding and reflect on the discussion question given.
I have seen this mimicked on blackboard with similar results. The responses are for the most part insightful and reflective. This is a great way to introduce reflective practice to students. The member’s only feature helped to facilitate privacy and the asynchronous component allows for students to be thoughtful in their responses; taking more time to reflect rather than to react. This is something that I would definitely use in the classroom.
