As a final assignment for this course we were required to create a project that illustrated our understanding of learning theories, 21st century learners, meaningful use of technology, critical analysis of curriculum, and factors that influence implementation of technology in education. For this assignment I chose to create a curriculum addressing Digital Citizenship for students in Grades K-2. The following artifact is both the written and the video description of the assignment.

Reflection:
21st Century Learning is a running theme throughout all of the courses in the M.Ed Program. From asynchronous and synchronous learning to online presentations, 21st century learning is the foundation in which this program is built.
EDUC 5303 Technology and the Curriculum was a course I took in the Winter of 2013. Throughout every assignment I was challenged to express my ideas in a way in which a 21st Century learner would engage with. According to
Dr. Robin Kay this included, less visual words, more graphics and verbal discussion. No other course challenged me to express my 21st century learning skills and admittedly at the beginning it was frustrating. Eventually, I worked through my own barriers and produced what I thought to be a 21st century curriculum for today’s 21st Century learner.
Each artifact conveys a different aspect of 21st Century learning. Artifact 1a Digital Citizenship Document Grades K-2 address the idea of introducing Digital Citizenship into the curriculum. Specifically, it takes into account students ages and maturity levels and introduces important aspects of being a Digital Citizenship. Issues like security and one’s digital footprint are presented in a sensitive way. Learning how to be an effective Digital Citizenship is one important part of 21st Century Learning.
Artifact 1b The Final Video presentation is interesting as it conveys two messages. One is the presentation of the document artifact 1a, but secondly it is a good example of what a 21st Century video should look. It is verbal and visual, but the writing presented is only used as a springboard to convey information. This is something that
Dr. Robin Kay made me very aware of in class. Creating documents for the 21st Century learner is more than just conveying the information. It is conveying the information in an interesting and engaging way that allows for critical analysis and discussion.
